As December came and went, I considered what gifts to get for our Seniors. I like this tradition and I think it is worthwhile and the nursing homes really seemed appreciative. However this year, something just didn't feel right. So I waited, Christmas came and went. 

I watched as two families/friends said goodbye to their fathers. I spent as much time as I could with mine (who also happened to have had surgery recently) I wished there was more I could do for these families, my heart broke (still breaks) for them. Neither father was particularly old and both had been through more than their fair share of illnesses. 

One family was local and I was able to attend calling hours and offer my condolences and hugs. 

The other is a co-worker of mine whose parents live on the other side of the state. It's hard to express sympathy through Facebook or texting. I recently learned that this particular family did not have life insurance. They are struggling to be able to provide even the most basic funeral services. THIS is why I had hesitated on Senior Santa this year, we were meant to help THIS family this year. I know my Grandparents would do anything to help a family member or friend in this situation. 

I know our means are meager, but I'm sure every little bit helps. ]]><![CDATA[Slight Adjustments]]>Thu, 10 Jul 2014 22:09:50 GMThttp://www.202mainstreet.org/home/slight-adjustmentsI've been doing a lot of thinking and realized that perhaps I was a bit too ambitious with my goals for this organization. I probably won't do many major fundraisers (at least not right now), however donations will always be accepted and used for good. My goal is to continue to do things that my Grandparents would have done, to the best of my ability. If you know anyone in need, please let me know and I'll see what we can do.  Without a board of trustees, I doubt I'll ever be able to officially make us a 501 c3 organization, but I'm still completely open to the idea. This year we did not have quite as many participants and we had to adjust our gifts. We made 20 gifts and delivered them to 2 nursing homes as well as a basket of games and books for each nursing home's common room. Thank you so much to all who helped!

Hopefully 30 seniors will have a more cheerful Christmas. These adorable baskets were delivered last night to 3 nursing care facilities. The staff was greatly appreciative and excited to pass them out. Each place also got a large basket with board games, puzzles, and cards. 

Hoping Grandma and Grandpa are proud of what we've done in their honor
