Grandpa's Gifts
One Christmas, back in the 90s, Grandpa (Bob) repeatedly told us that he did not want any gifts for Christmas. He said he had enough stuff and that we shouldn't be spending our money on him. So as a gag, we of course bought presents for him, but we hid them all. As we all passed out presents, Grandpa got none. He didn't even seem phased, in fact he seemed content to have gotten exactly what he asked for. We did give him our gifts and we all got a good laugh out of it, but I'll never forget the fact that he really didn't want any gifts. The first Christmas after he passed away (in 2004), I was at a loss for what to get Grandma. At the time she was living with my Aunt and didn't seem to want anything. So in honor of Grandpa I took the money I would have spent on BOTH of them, and I purchased items off of the trees in the bank - the ones that donated the items to seniors who were in nursing homes and had no family. I thought it was something Grandpa would have liked, he always had his loving family around him and he would like others to know someone was thinking of them.
So it is in this spirit that 10% of every donation is donated into the Christmas fund that will be used to purchase Christmas gifts for Seniors who are alone in nursing homes.
Official "Giftless Gifts" will be available for "purchase" for $15. Each gift purchase will receive a certificate and (an item to be determined) to give that explains the gift. Visit our Grandpa's Giftless Christmas page. |
